I love piano lessons!

My parents gave me piano lessons as a gift when I was five, and I loved them so much that I used to come home and dress up in my big sister’s clothes and play piano teacher!

Singing, dancing, piano, families, friends — creating, teaching, performing, playing — these have all, always been connected for me.

My teaching style draws on all aspects of my music education and my artistic life. I grew up singing around the piano with friends and family. I studied traditional piano lessons and have completed Gr. 10 Royal Conservatory. I graduated with a Bachelor of Music (Highest Honors) in Jazz Piano at Carleton University, which included studies in piano pedagogy.

I teach privately at my home in Ottawa. My emphasis is on a fun, flexible and open approach to playing music: reading, playing by ear, theory, composition, improvising, accompanying, developing personal repertoires, songwriting, writing music for poems, writing songs for paintings, making drawings based on specific sounds and feelings — we really play!

I particularly love to teach the fundamentals combined with personal expression.

I aim to provide a foundation in music that will allow my students to enjoy playing for life!

“Our daughter gets so much out of her time with you - thanks for being so amazing with her, and encouraging her to be creative, while teaching fundamentals in a way that speaks to her.”

“Absolutely terrific with children, and a great teacher too!”

“A committed, enthusiastic, playful and compassionate teacher…Megan looks to find where the child is as far as readiness and interest to learn and meets them there.”
