Teaching

My teaching style draws on all aspects of my music education and my artistic life. I grew up singing around the piano with friends and family. I studied traditional piano lessons  and have completed Gr. 10 Royal Conservatory. I graduated with a Bachelor of Music (Highest Honors) in Jazz Piano at Carleton University, which included studies in piano pedagogy.

I teach privately at my home in Ottawa. My emphasis is on a fun, flexible and open approach to playing music: reading, playing by ear, theory, composition, improvising, accompanying, developing personal repertoires, songwriting, small private recitals. I incorporate interdisciplinarity into my lessons for fun and to facilitate expression, improvising, and composition/songwriting: writing music for poems, writing songs for paintings, making drawings based on specific sounds.

I teach all ages and levels from beginners to pre-professional music students at Carleton University, where I am an Associate Performance Teacher. I have led workshops on creativity and songwriting and have been a mentor in the Youth Program at Folk Music Ontario.

I aim to provide a foundation in music that will allow my students to enjoy playing music for life!
